Fernando Torres liked the way the Chelsea supporters stood up

Fernando Torres liked the way the Chelsea supporters stood up and clapped for Steven Gerrard the other day when he was coming off the pitch having played his part in the match.

It was the last time Gerrard was making an appearance at Stamford Bridge.

Because of the Reds and the Blues being arch rivals, Gerrard has almost always been on the receiving end on his visits to Bridge and yesterday was no different either.

He was subject to some rude comments again, but, at the time he was taken off by his manager in the second half, each and every spectator present there showed a respectful gesture towards the playmaker.

According to Torres, it was wonderful to see the standing ovation being given to Gerrard as he deserves it.

The 31-year old wrote on a social networking site, “The legend being clapped off. What a gesture, so nice of Chelsea fans, privileged to have been a part of both the teams in the past.”

The gesture did not impress Gerrard himself though. He sounded a bit sarcastic of the fact that after ruthlessly bombarding him with abuses for a big part of the contest, the Blues fans opted to hand him a respectful ovation.

Fernando Torres managed to score 20 goals in 110 appearances

Fernando Torres managed to score 20 goals in 110 appearances during his time performing with Chelsea. This is a very underwhelming record for any forward and it’s even less impressive taking into consideration that the Spanish player arrived with to Stamford Bridge a price tag of €50 million.

However, even with this very disappointing record that Fernando Torres created in the team of Jose Mourinho, Torres revealed that his decision to leave Chelsea and join Ac.Milan was not a decision of the Portuguese manager.

Torres joined Ac.Milan in August of 2014 on a 2 year long loan deal and it was initially believed that this transfer was engineered by Jose Mourinho as he tried to kick-start the career of Torres and hopefully find the spark that he needed to start scoring goals on a consistent basis but it never happened as the Spanish player still struggled getting goals despite making a move to the Italian club, Ac.Milan.

The 31 year old player Spanish forward announced that this switch was a personal decision of his and it had nothing to do with Jose Mourinho or anything else.

‘’Mourinho has always been good to me. The decision to leave was a personal one because I needed more, I needed to feel important. Mourinho and I have a good relationship and still today we continue to talk to each other.’’ Fernando Torres said.

Diego Simeone happy with Performance of Torres

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone says that he is extremely happy with the contribution of Fernando Torres in the recent 0-0 draw with Sevilla.

Torres came on as a substitute late on in the match, but he was unable to prevent Atletico Madrid from only getting a point from the match. This meant that they were unable to close the gap on Real Madrid, who also only drew the match. This is seen as a great opportunity to reduce the gap to the top of the table to only five points. Even though Atletico would have had to also contend with the threat from Barcelona, it would have been a strong position indeed.

As it is, Atletico are going through a mini crisis in terms of form after managing only two victories from the last five matches in all competitions. This includes defeats against Bayern Leverkusen and Celta de Vigo. The defeat against Leverkusen, though, will be especially damaging given that it is in the first leg of the Champions League.

The return leg will be at the Vicente Calderon and Simeone will make sure that his team are pumped up for this encounter. However, their failure to score an away goal puts them at a major risk.

Fernando Torres wants to win Titles for Team

Fernando Torres has stated that he wants to start winning titles with Atletico Madrid. The Spaniard made a return to the Spanish club seven years after he left for Liverpool in a £ 26 million deal.

Since then, Torres has managed to lift several trophies including the World Cup and the Champions League. However, he returns to Madrid as a measure of his former self since he has not been able to score goals regularly. Torres is not expected to be a first choice striker in this team under Diego Simeone. The 30-year-old has joined Atletico Madrid on a loan deal until the end of the season from AC Milan.

Torres was presented to the Atletico Madrid supporters just ahead of the high-profile clash with Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey.

Torres Tells That The Decision To Leave Chelsea Was His Own

It was revealed by AC Milan that the decision of Fernando Torres to leave Chelsea FC was personal and he did so as he wanted to feel more important.

Although this action is not very expected of a player who has remained one of the most feared strikers in football history but it was situation that led him to do so. Torress admits that he had considered joining Atlectico Madrid as he wanted to become the first choice of the team.

The result of his joining the team gave Atletico Madrid the recent success as they needed a striker of such caliber to take them to the level of ambition they had pictured for themselves. They couldn’t replace Diego Costa with Torres due to reasons relating to football and not sentimental. This is why they brought in Mario Mandzukic from Bayern. This is when Torres was left with the option to move to AC Milan, a club that was seeing tough times financially and was in need of a striker who could sell the goods but without a big transfer fee.

Fernando had commented on his decision where he left Chelsea to join Atletico Madrid was that the decision was a very personal one as he needed to feel more important and that him and Mourinho are still on friendly terms as they continue to talk to each other till date. He saw no real option to return and he didn’t like the fact that the people speculated. He also said that he didn’t go to Atletico because he wanted to retire as the today’s atletico is far different from what it has been in the past.

When Fernando Torres played for Atletico, they were only a team who had gained the promotion to Second division and were not contenders of the title. The club reached the top of the ladder under Diego Simeone and they became the contenders of the La Liga title. Even through the decision was Torres’ personal, it gained all the parties involved.
