LAMPARD: TORRES WILL IMPROVE

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has backed Fernando Torres to become a much better player for Chelsea in the forthcoming seasons.

Fernando Torres has been brandished about as the world’s most expensive failure, as the striker has scored only a handful of goals since his £ 50 million move from Liverpool.

Torres was a deadline day signing on January of last season, but has failed to live up to the expectations. Many people were expecting Fernando Torres to come good this season, as joining a club in the middle of a season is always difficult, but Torres has found the going tough this season again, and has struggled for goals.

Torres replaced Didier Drogba, who was struggling with a niggling injury, against Wolverhampton Wanderers, who had the best football odds of winning of any team facing Chelsea in recent weeks. Even though Torres did not score in the match, he was good enough to earn the praise of midfielder Frank Lampard.

“Fernando played well. He looked very sharp. It’s not been easy for him. He hasn’t been playing that much. It’s not easy for him and you need that edge. But when you’re not playing it’s difficult. But he showed a lot of glimpses of what he’s all about. Sometimes strikers don’t score but you can see that sharpness in them and you’re waiting for the goal to come,” Frank Lampard said after the Wolverhampton Wanderers match.

Fernando Torres is expected to get a regular run out once Didier Drogba goes to the African Cup of Nations in January.
