TORRES – LIVERPOOL UNFAIR WITH ‘TRAITOR’ CLAIM

Fernando Torres believes his ex-club, Liverpool conveyed him as a “traitor” following his departure to Chelsea in 2011.

The world cup winner, who became the fans’ choice at Anfield after scoring 65 goals in 102 league appearances for the club, signed for Chelsea in January 2011 for a then-British transfer record of £50m.

Despite the fact that he enjoyed huge personal success in his first three seasons at Liverpool, Torres became worried at the path the club was touring as a potential takeover loomed and sought to have talks with managing director Christian Purslow in the summer of 2010.

Before his departure, he was curious to know if the financial position of the club would be able to survive. However, with some key players beginning to leave, and following the sale of Javier Mascherano to Barcelona soon afterwards, he was left quite frustrated.

Fernando Torres managed to score 20 goals in 110 appearances

Fernando Torres managed to score 20 goals in 110 appearances during his time performing with Chelsea. This is a very underwhelming record for any forward and it’s even less impressive taking into consideration that the Spanish player arrived with to Stamford Bridge a price tag of €50 million.

However, even with this very disappointing record that Fernando Torres created in the team of Jose Mourinho, Torres revealed that his decision to leave Chelsea and join Ac.Milan was not a decision of the Portuguese manager.

Torres joined Ac.Milan in August of 2014 on a 2 year long loan deal and it was initially believed that this transfer was engineered by Jose Mourinho as he tried to kick-start the career of Torres and hopefully find the spark that he needed to start scoring goals on a consistent basis but it never happened as the Spanish player still struggled getting goals despite making a move to the Italian club, Ac.Milan.

The 31 year old player Spanish forward announced that this switch was a personal decision of his and it had nothing to do with Jose Mourinho or anything else.

‘’Mourinho has always been good to me. The decision to leave was a personal one because I needed more, I needed to feel important. Mourinho and I have a good relationship and still today we continue to talk to each other.’’ Fernando Torres said.

TORRES CAN’T SCORE

Fernando Torres once again struggled to score the goals that is being expected from him in a match against Birmingham City. Chelsea took on Birmingham city in the fifth round of the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge. Due to the fact that Birmingham City are Championship side meant that Chelsea were the favourites to get through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. However, it was Birmingham who took the lead early in the match through their left back. It only intensified the pressure on manager Andre Villas-Boas and also on Fernando Torres, who was struggling to create chances and also to take them as well.

Fernando Torres has not been able to find the back of the net since scoring in the match against Swansea in October. He has gone 20 matches in various competitions without a goal, which has put his Chelsea career in major doubt. Fernando Torres was signed from Liverpool for a British record transfer fee of £ 50 million, but has failed to live up to the hopes. He is proving to be a major catastrophic signing than former AC Milan striker Andrei Shevchenko, who cost Chelsea £ 30 million in 2007.

“I’m not concerned. When he scores the goals, he’ll be a different player for sure,” Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas said after subbing Fernando Torres at half-time. “It was not good enough for sure. But we take the game to St Andrews, a difficult game and another story. They are undefeated in the league there and I’m sure they will put on an even more decent challenge,” the Chelsea manager said after the match. Chelsea managed to get back into the game in the second half after a goal from Daniel Sturridge. The FA Cup replay will be taking place in March at St Andrews.
